Singing The Devil's Tune

by Nick Jaina

see these burns on my feet
they come from dancing on your roof in the summer heat
see these scars on my tongue
they come from telling the truth when I was so young
I go blind, I go deaf
I reach out for anything that I have left
I find a job, take a wife
and I wonder what became of my other life
when I was singing the devil's tune
singing the devil's tune
singing the devil's tune

I set out on my own
because I'm tired of the prison of my home
I need the ocean to cool my feet
I need to play music with my friends in the street

that's where I'll be laughing, laughing
and singing the devil's tune
I'll be singing the devil's tune
I'll be singing the devil's tune

oh lover please return to my arms
don't you know that the world is just the plates you spin and the knives you throw

take the hat off your head
say some good words for the dead
feel that sting in your heart
that's your conscience and that's a start
I've spent all of my life in line at the county fair
I put all of my hopes on the feather that you pin to your hair

now I'm singing the devil's tune
now I'm singing the devil's tune
now I'm singing the devil's tune
